Jeremy Corbyn tonight criticised Theresa May’s cuts to policing in the run up to last night’s London Bridge attacks in a strongly worded speech. He said Labour would take “whatever action is necessary” to ensure the safety of citizens, adding: “You cannot protect the public on the cheap.”
This, from the leader of the party that – during David Blunkett’s time as Home Secretary – replaced thousands of police officers with PCSOs. Dedicated, well-meaning people that I have no wish to criticise, but without full police training or powers, while still dressed in police uniforms.
What was that, if not policing on the cheap?
